B2B Productivity Slumps for One Month Around Christmas.

ARLINGTON, Mass., Dec. 12 2006 /PRNewswire/ — Glance Networks, Inc., creators of the “one-button-simple” Glance.net(TM) screen sharing service, today announced results from its first holiday season productivity report. Based on an analysis of work trends at B2B workplaces during the months of December and January during the past three years, the study reveals that B2B company productivity falls consistently below average for an entire month surrounding the Christmas holiday.

“It comes as no surprise that companies are less productive around the holidays,” said Rich Baker, founder and CEO, Glance Networks. “But it is surprising that company productivity stays depressed for an entire month. It begins declining two weeks before Christmas and does not return to full force until the third Tuesday in January.”

The study uncovered several end-of-year holiday season patterns within B2B environments:

  • The last full B2B workday usually falls on the second Monday before Christmas;
  • Productivity steadily declines over the next two weeks, falling to 20 to
  • 25 percent below normal levels during the three workdays before Christmas;
  • Productivity is off 35 percent the day before Christmas;
  • Productivity is down nearly 90 percent the day after Christmas;
  • Productivity stays below 50 percent the entire week between Christmas and New Years;
  • Most B2B companies do not return to pre-holiday levels until the third Tuesday after New Year’s Day.

“If trends of the past few years hold again in 2006-2007, we won’t see B2B companies hit their normal stride until January 16, 2007,” said Baker.

The results of the Glance Networks Holiday Productivity Report were gleaned from an analysis of online traffic volume of more than 2,600 B2B companies that use Glance’s online screen sharing service for online product demonstrations, sales presentations, customer support and employee training sessions. These customers represent a diverse set of industries, including high technology, financial services, healthcare, manufacturing, and architectural and design services. Approximately 70 percent of these customers are based inside the United States, with the remaining 30 percent split roughly evenly between Canada, Europe and Asia/Pacific.
